NEW BioXclude Poster, Antimicrobial With & Without Nicotine Against Four Dental Pathogens |2020 Academy of Osseointegration

We love good research at Snoasis Medical, and the data to support BioXclude’s antimicrobial properties just keeps coming. Today we are excited to share for the first time a research poster by Yusuke Hamada, DDS, MSD presented at this year’s virtual Academy of Osseointegration Annual Meeting: Antimicrobial Effects of Dehydrated Human Amnion-Chorion Membranes Against Dental Pathogens With and Without the Effect of Nicotine: In Vitro.
Antimicrobial Effects of Dehydrated Human Amnion-Chorion Membranes Against Dental Pathogens With & Without the Effect of Nicotine: In Vitro
This study compares the antimicrobial capabilities of BioXclude amnion-chorion membrane, non-crosslinked collagen membrane, and paper discs saturated with different amounts of doxycycline (50 mg/ml, 50 μg/ml, and 0 mg/ml) against the growth of 4 oral pathogens:

1. Porphyromonas gingivalis
2. Fusbacterium nucleatum
3. Streptococcus mutans
4. Streptococcus sanguis

Additionally, all samples were tested with and without nicotine to measure the effect on bacterial growth.

Results
  • BioXclude amnion-chorion membrane was found to reduce the bacterial attachment and growth across all four bacterial strains compared to non-crosslinked collagen membranes in vitro.
  • Data suggests the decrease in bacterial attachment onto the ACM may decrease the chance for bacterial recolonization during early wound healing, which may contribute to the wound healing process.
  • Although many clinicians missed viewing this poster due to the national shutdown in April-May of 2020, we encourage you to now take the opportunity to review these impressive results that also reiterate the conclusions observed in a similar in vitro model published by Ashraf 2019, in the International Journal of Dentistry.

Thank you, Dr. Hamada
We are so grateful for the doctors such as Yusuke Hamada, DDS, MSD, Clinical Assistant Professor in Periodontology at Indiana University School of Dentistry, who take the time to research de-epithelialized amnion-chorion membrane (BioXclude) and continue revealing the exciting healing properties of this unique membrane.

“I use BioXclude in a variety of situations including regenerative procedures around teeth/implants and implant site development. As a barrier membrane with the biological and antimicrobial properties, BioXclude membranes maximize my regenerative outcomes.”
