November BioXclude Case of the Month by Dr. Anthony Del Vecchio

Check out our November BioXclude Case of The Month. Last fall we began showcasing some of the amazing cases clinicians are sharing with Snoasis Medical. After receiving feedback to continue to showcase and highlight cases, we will continue to share a new case each month. This month’s Case of The Month was shared by Dr. Anthony Del Vecchio.

Anthony Del Vecchio
DDS
Dr. Anthony Del Vecchio is a full-time practicing Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon in Yorktown Heights, New York. Dr. Del Vecchio graduated from New York University College of Dentistry and completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Residency at the Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is board certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; is a diplomate of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; and is a member of the New York State Society of Oral Surgeons, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Yorktown/Peekskill study group. Dr Del Vecchio has lectured nationally, outlining the benefits of using the advanced technologies he uses in his practice.

Today we are pleased to showcase, Dr. Del Vecchio’s open window sinus lift utilizing BioXclude:

When asked about this case Dr. Del Vecchio responded: “This multi-purpose membrane/ barrier/ growth factor is the perfect adjunct for scenarios encountered in the maxillofacial region. Here is an atrophic maxilla treated with an open window sinus lift. Despite best intentions to preserve an already thin sinus membrane, large sinus lifts can lead to large perforations in a short period of time. As most clinicians would abort and re- enter the site a month later to the dismay of the patient and the clinicians time, a sheet of 20 x 30 Bioxclude is not only the perfect membrane for an open window sinus lift BUT also for large perforations of the maxillary sinus. It can be placed to cover the entire perforation and 5mm beyond the perforation. It is also resistant to bacteria from the sinus and is known to be kind to the adjacent tissues. The growth factors contained within the membrane and its resorption profile allow a sinus surgery complication to continue with excellent graft containment while optimizing the surgical outcome.”
