BioXclude Best Case Winner: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

This spring we requested your best cases, and today I am both honored and excited to share with you our winner for best case in the oral & maxillofacial surgery category, Michael J. Hartman, DMD, MD.

Michael J. Hartman
DMD, MD

Dr. Michael J. Hartman of Hartman Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Mechanicsburg, PA has been a long-time contributor to Snoasis Medical’s case documentation efforts. Dr. Hartman has a keen interest in applying the latest in digital technology and reconstructive procedures to provide better treatment outcomes that are minimally invasive and time efficient. Oral and Maxillofacial surgery is a team sport and the team at Hartman Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery pride themselves on their commitment to patient care that starts with the front desk staff and extends to the patient care consultants, assistants, and post- operative assistants. Their culture of positivity and caring for their patients allows them to deliver the best possible results!

Today we are pleased to showcase the implant case Dr. Hartman has submitted:

Dr. Hartman chose to document this particular case because of the exostosis, or extra bone, in the surgical area. A couple things helped with the excellent graft outcome of this case. First, the exostosis allowed Dr. Hartman to overgraft the area without as much risk of buccal resorption. Second, a small continuous segment of bone was able to be left at the top of the graft site which further helped. A combination of allograft and platelet rich plasma (PRP) were used for osteoconductive and osteoinductive agents. BioXclude was chosen as the membrane because it is resorbable, easy to place, difficult to tear, and cost efficient. It is also very advantageous because it can be left exposed to the oral environment.

Dynamic navigation was used to place the dental implant in a minimally invasive (flapless) approach. A patient specific customized healing abutment was designed and fabricated to ensure a proper emergence profile for the anticipated final restoration.

While the patient was not concerned about esthetics, Dr. Hartman and his team are committed to providing the best outcome possible for all of their patients!
